About Rural Water and Septic
If you are in the market for a farm, ranch, resort property or outdoor property in Nevada, you may notice that most of these properties have a septic tank or a well or both. If you are not familiar with these things, don’t let your lack of knowledge influence your real estate purchasing decision. While they are different, these systems still function in much the same way as city utilities.
Wells
A well can have advantages over a typical municipal water source in that the water may not be as hard, meaning that it contains less minerals, and it will not contain the many added chemicals that city water usually has. A simple testing of the water source will tell you if you have hard water. If you do, there are water softeners that are available for well water systems. Many people who have wells have found that they experience a positive difference in the way their hair and body feels after bathing.
As far as the operation of the system, municipal water systems and wells are pretty much the same.
Septic Tanks
Septic tanks don’t require a lot of maintenance. Simple scheduled maintenance, and depending on how the septic system is set up, only an occasional emptying out is all that is needed. As with city sewer systems, common sense comes into play before flushing. And while there are products offered at the local home stores for septic systems, these products are not required for maintenance or for improved operation of the system. So, a septic system does not add any burden to homeownership.
In fact, all potential buyers of rural properties must remember that septic systems and wells should not be a factor in buying the property that you love. When you locate the Nevada real estate, the farm, ranch, resort property, or outdoor property that you want, be sure to ask questions until you are comfortable with your knowledge of septic systems and well water sources.
While these two rural systems are different from city utilities, minimal effort is required to grow accustomed to the small differences.
