About Carson City, Nevada...

Carson City is Nevada’s territorial and state capital with a rich and colorful past.  Named for the famous frontiersman, Christopher “Kit” Carson, Carson City was also designated as the county seat for Ormsby County.

After the discovery of gold and silver in the area, and in particular one such discovery known as the famous Comstock Lode, Carson City became a thriving commercial center. President Abraham Lincoln recognized the importance of the mining efforts to the Union’s Civil War cause, and signed a proclamation that brought Nevada to statehood in 1864.

Carson City’s history as a frontier town is captured in museums, annual events, and more.  The Kit Carson trail winds through the historic residential district with turn-of-the-century mansions, courthouses, depot and a brewery.  The State Capitol grounds provide a look back in time to the birth of Nevada.
